AR308
Ejector Removal Directions & Tools Needed:
Tools Required:
Sully AR308 Ejector Tool, Kroil creeping oil, small ballpein hammer,
1/16” Pin Punch.
Directions for Removal of the AR308 Ejector: - Locate the roll pin that
is just behind the AR308 bolt lugs.Apply a few drops of Kroil to the roll pin on both ends, letting it soak
through the roll pin.
- If you look at the Sully
Ejector Tool, there are two holes in the tool body that will allow you to drive
the roll pin through either hole. You
will also see a rectangular slot the shape of a bolt lug, which is machined
into the body of the tool and centered to align with the middle of the two roll
pin holes.Place the AR308 bolt into the
Sully Ejector Tool, so that the roll pin is aligned vertically over one of the
holes in the tool body, and at the same time insert a bolt lug into the
rectangular slot.
- Make sure the bolts lug
is inserted into the pocket of the tool, and that the roll pin is properly
aligned with the holes in the tool body.Gently with a light touch, rotate the threaded bolt inward until it
makes light contact with the ejector.Once you make contact with the ejector, rotate the threaded bolt only
one more turn so the ejector is compressed just slightly rearward to take the
spring pressure off of it.Note:Do Not screw the threaded bolt all the way
into the bolt, fully compressing the ejector into the bolt body, as you will
possibly cause it to bind up, as mentioned above you only have to compress the
ejector one rotation of which is just enough to take the spring pressure off
the ejector so you can remove the roll pin.
-
With the bolt locked into
the tool, and the ejector compressed just slightly enough to take a little
spring pressure off of it, use a 1/16” pin punch to carefully tap out the roll
pin with a taps from the hammer onto the pin punch.
-
Once the roll pin is
removed, carefully and slowly unscrew the threaded bolt of the tool, until the
ejector pin and ejector spring comes loose.Lift the bolt out of the tool, and remove the ejector and ejector spring.
AR308
Ejector Installation Directions & Tools Needed:
Tools Needed:
Sully AR308 Ejector Tool, Ballpein Hammer, Gun Oil, 1/16” Pin punch,
3/32” Roll Pin Punch.
Directions for AR308 Ejector Installation:
- Install the ejector spring into the bolt. Insert the ejector into the bolt, making sure
that the roll pin cut relief cut on the ejector goes into the hole first
towards the back of the bolt, and make the relief cut face the center of the
bolt (Facing the firing pin).
- Insert the bolt into the Sully Ejector Tool. Make sure that you align the bolt so that a
bolt lug locks into the relief cut slot on the ejector tool body and the roll
pin hole on the bolt is in alignment with the roll pin hole on the tool body.
- Slowly and carefully tighten the threaded bolt, just
enough so that the ejector is compressed just below the front of the bolt lugs,
and the relief cut on the ejector aligns with the roll pin hole in the
bolt. If it appears to be visually
aligned, confirm for proper alignment by gently inserting a 1/16” pin punch
through the roll pin / bolt assembly.
- If you can insert a 1/16” pin punch and confirm that
the ejector is properly aligned with the roll pin hole in the bolt, then you
are ready to insert the roll pin.
- To install the roll pin, lubricate the roll pin hole
with a gun oil. Tap the 1/16” roll pin
into the hole using a 3/32” roll pin punch and small ballpein hammer. Tap the roll pin inwards until it goes flush
with the exterior of the bolt body.
Directions
and Tools for removal of the Bolt Action Rifle Ejector on Remington 700 and
Savage Short Action & Long Action type rifles.
Tools: Sully
AR308 Ejector Tool, Kroil creeping oil, small ballpein hammer, 1/16” or 5/64”
Pin Punch (Depending upon which is needed).
Note: Remington: The Remington 700 type rifles
are most times using a 5/64” diameter pin, so use a 5/64” pin punch for pin
removal.
Savage: The Savage type rifles are
generally using a 1/16” diameter splined pin, so use a 1/16” pin punch for
removal.
Directions for removal of the Bolt Action Rifle
Ejector on Remington 700, and Savage Short Action & Long Action type rifle
- Locate the pin that holds the ejector
into the bolt, the pin is generally located in the bolt lugs. Visually inspect the pin, you will most
likely see that it is flush to the surface on one side of the bolt lugs, and
recessed on the other side of the bolt lugs.
Usually you will find that the ejector retaining pin was installed from
the side it is flush with the bolt lug, which should allow you to remove the
pin from driving the pin out from recessed side, towards the side the pin is
flush on. Note:
The Savage type rifles often times use a Splined Pin, and the Splined pins are
generally put in so the Splines are at the flush side. So if you are working with a splined pin, you
will need to drive it out from the non-splined side towards the splined
side. Apply a few drops of Kroil to the
roll pin on both ends, letting it soak through the roll pin.
- To
remove the ejector on a bolt action rifle bolt, place the bolt lugs into the
ejector tool, making sure the bolt lugs are inserted into the lug recess of the
tool, and that the ejector retaining pin is properly aligned over the
corresponding hole in the ejector tool.
Gently with a light touch, rotate the threaded bolt inward until it
makes light contact with the ejector.
Once you make contact with the ejector, rotate the threaded bolt only
one more turn so the ejector is compressed just slightly rearward to take the
spring pressure off of it. Note: Do Not screw the threaded bolt all the way
into the bolt, fully compressing the ejector into the bolt body, as you will
possibly cause it to bind up, as mentioned above you only have to compress the
ejector one rotation of which is just enough to take the spring pressure off
the ejector so you can remove the roll pin.
- With the bolt locked into the tool, and
the ejector compressed just slightly enough to take a little spring pressure
off of it, use the proper pin punch (As noted above: Generally a 1/16” on
Savage, and 3/32” on Remington) to carefully tap out the retaining pin with a
taps from the hammer onto the pin punch.
- Once
the roll pin is removed, carefully and slowly unscrew the threaded bolt of the
tool, until the ejector pin and ejector spring comes loose. Lift the bolt out of the ejector tool, and
remove the ejector and ejector spring.
Directions
and Tools for installation of the Bolt Action Rifle Ejector on Remington 700
and Savage Short Action & Long Action type rifles.
Tools Needed:
Sully AR308 Ejector Tool, Ballpein Hammer, Gun Oil, 1/16” or 5/64” Pin
punch, 3/32” Roll Pin Punch.
Directions for installation of the Bolt Action Rifle
Ejector on Remington 700 and Savage Short Action & Long Action type rifles:
- Install the ejector spring into the
bolt, and lubricate. Insert the ejector
into the bolt, making sure that the retaining pin cut relief cut on the ejector
goes into the hole first towards the back of the bolt, and make the relief cut
face the center of the bolt (Facing the firing pin).
- Insert the bolt into the Sully
Ejector Tool so that you place the bolt in the direction you wish to install
the pin into the bolt lugs from. Note:
Generally the retaining pin is installed into the lug that the ejector is
closest to.
- Slowly and carefully tighten the
threaded bolt, just enough so that the ejector is compressed just below the
front of the bolt lugs, and the relief cut on the ejector aligns with the
retaining pin hole in the bolt. If it
appears to be visually aligned, confirm for proper alignment by gently
inserting the proper pin punch that you used to remove the retaining pin with
(Generally 1/16” on Savage, and 5/64” on Remington) through the roll pin / bolt
assembly, confirming that you have everything properly aligned so the retaining
pin will fit.
- To install the retaining pin,
carefully remove the pin punch that you confirmed proper alignment with, then
add a drop of lubricate into the pin hole.
Carefully tap the retaining pin into the hole using a 3/32” roll pin
punch on the Remington, and the 5/64” punch on the Savage, using a small
ballpein hammer. Tap the roll pin
inwards until it goes flush with the exterior of the bolt body. Slowly back the threaded bolt of the tool
outward, releasing tension on the ejector, and confirm that the retaining pin
is installed so that the ejector is properly retained.
